YWCAs help young people develop healthy, respectful and non-violent relationships

Here are some Australian YWCA healthy relationships programs:

Relationship things, YWCA of Canberra

A resource to help build healthy relationships

Relationship Things is a resource package designed to help young people to create healthy relationships.

Relationships Things was developed by the YWCA of Canberra to prevent sexual assault and violence against women and girls.

The package consists of a booklet, posters and a resource kit for professionals working with young people. The package provides activities to explore issues like respect, communication and understanding violence and sexual assault.

HIV/AIDS and sexual rights & health program, YWCA of Broken Hill

A program of local action to combat HIV/AIDs and to promote sexual and reproductive health

HIV/AIDs prevention is a global priority for the international YWCA movement.

In 2009, the YWCA of Broken Hill implemented an HIV/AIDs and sexual rights and health program in their local area. The YWCA of Broken Hill provided the Relationship Things booklet, produced by the YWCA of Canberra, to local secondary schools to raise awareness of the issues.

The YWCA of Broken Hill also partnered with other Broken Hill organisations that work with at risk and marginalised young people to distribute condoms.

'Step Up' wallet card, YWCA of Canberra

Real men wear condoms

The Relationship Things 'Step Up' wallet card is targeted at young men and has the specific aim of preventing young people contracting STIs and HIV.

The 'Step Up' wallet card urges men to have safe and respectful sexual relationships.

The wallet card has been developed in response to research showing that young heterosexual men are not practicing safe sex because they think they are not at risk and that the use of condoms is not their responsibility.
