The YWCA provides emergency housing support for women who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

In many cases, women and children become homeless escaping domestic and family violence.

Here are some Australian YWCA emergency housing support services:

YWCA Palmerston Domestic and Family Violence Centre, YWCA of Darwin

This is an integrated service providing safe, supported accommodation to families in the Darwin and Palmerston region.

The service offers outreach support, advocacy, referral and support for accompanying children.

Families Experiencing Accommodation Transitions in Tuggeranong (FEATT) Service, YWCA of Canberra

The Families Experiencing Accommodation Transitions in Tuggeranong (FEATT) service provides short and medium term accommodation and outreach support to families who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

The FEATT service has seven furnished houses. Families pay rent of around 25% of the family’s combined income. Each family is also allocated a housing support worker to help them find a long-term place to live and help link the family to the community around them. When families move into more permanent accommodation they are provided with follow up support to help them sustain their tenancy.

The YWCA of Canberra also operates the Family Housing Outreach Service which provides medium to long term support accommodation and outreach support to families who are homeless or at risk of homelessness

Homeless Brokerage Program, YWCA NSW

This program provides essential crisis support, case management and referral to homeless individuals, couples, and families who are in crisis but who are unable to access existing refuges or accommodation services, or require assistance other than accommodation.

Many of the program's clients are marginalised and have difficulty accessing local community support networks. The program provides accommodation, food, medical needs, travel assistance, material aid, counselling and financial assistance.

The program operates during extended hours every day of the year including evenings, week ends and public holidays and is provided under contract to the City of Sydney Council.
