YWCA NSW runs money skills programs for young people:
MoneySavvy, YWCA NSW
MoneySavvy is an interactive one day financial education workshop for year 10 and 11 students and is sponsored by HSBC Australia.
Money Savvy is designed to teach students about money management and to equip them with the skills and tools to help make informed decisions about their spending choices.
This program is being delivered in conjunction with YWCAs in Qld, SA, WA and ACT.
Hip Pocket Interactive Workshop, YWCA NSW
The Hip Pocket program is financial education for year 10 and 11 students.
An interactive and engaging one-day workshop, Hip Pocket teaches ways of managing money and develops awareness of the ways young people are targeted as consumers so that participants can make informed decisions about their spending .
Hip Pocket workshops complement and support topics within the Stage 5 commerce, English and maths curricula. Workshops are facilitated by trained YWCA NSW staff and volunteer mentors drawn from a broad range of employment and business backgrounds in the local community.
Hip Pocket is delivered throughout NSW and was developed by YWCA NSW in partnership with Citi Australia.
Making Cents Online Program, YWCA NSW
The Making Cents program is financial education for primary school students.
MakingCents is an online resource for teachers and parents containing practical information and teaching materials to help students understand and manage money.
The Making Cents site is offers guidance and tips and tools for parents to talk to their children about money. It helps to create family discussion on financial concepts like credit, banking and budgeting, with the aim of building healthy money habits.
The site also provides primary school teachers with a range of education resources packed with fun, individual or group activities for students aged 7 to 12.
