We improve lives by mentoring young people at school to boost their confidence, skills and self-esteem.

Here are some Australian YWCA in-school mentoring programs:

Y’s Girl, YWCA Victoria

Y’s Girl is YWCA Victoria’s fun, creative and active school-based program for eleven-to-fourteen- year old young people, created to encourage positive peer relationships, body image and self-esteem.

The eight-week program was delivered to eight primary schools across metropolitan Melbourne, Bendigo and Geelong in late 2009 and early 2010, with an independent evaluation affirming the positive impact on both participants and the broader school community.

YWCA also offers the Y's Girl Resource Kit, a practical tool for teachers, well-being coordinators, parents, youth workers, organisations and individuals.

In School Mentoring Program, YWCA NSW

In this program, adult volunteers mentor either a small or full class of year 5 and 6 students over the course of a school year.

As this special relationship develops, students receive particular support in the areas of reading and numeracy skills, self esteem, social integration, and school attendance, helping to improve their overall school performance and connectedness to their community.
