Women’s Housing Support Program Report Launch

On Wednesday 5 March, we held a morning tea event to share “Little things that are big: An Evaluation of the YWCA’s Women’s Housing Support Program” (WHSP) report, an external evaluation undertaken by RMIT University and funded by Homes Victoria and Lendlease FutureSteps.

The Women’s Housing Support Program was developed by YWCA Australia to address the need for specialist settlement support to assist older women in their transition to housing stability, safety and positive wellbeing.

A Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony was performed by local elder Josh West, Traditional Custodian of the Bunurong and Pulawa people, on behalf of Bunurong Land Council Aboriginal Corporation before we heard from Juliet Watson from RMIT, WHSP Coordinator Jo Smith and former resident, Sally, who shared about the impact that the program and Lakehouse had on her life and housing outcome.

“I am still amazed at how it all turned out. Almost a year later, I still look around my apartment and find it hard to fathom that I have a nice, safe, stable, affordable home. And my gratitude is immeasurable.”

Thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate the work of WHSP – team members, former residents, guest speakers Sally, Juliet Watson from RMIT and Jo Smith, Josh West and our guests Port Philip Lord Mayor Cr Louise Crawford and Lachlan Smith from the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing.
