Quick Exit

YWCA’s Asista Mentoring Program connects young women and gender diverse people in the Child Protection System with positive women mentors in Melbourne’s Northern and Western Suburbs.

Mentors and mentees are matched based on common interests, and meet for fun activities and shared experiences fortnightly.

Through these shared experiences, mentors support their mentee to build connection, confidence and life skills on their journey to independence.

Alongside one-on-one outings, Asista hosts Community Days – fun and skills-based group activities that give participants the opportunity to connect with others in the program.

Asista has been running since 1998, and is an initiative of YWCA Australia and the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing.

How do I become a mentor?

We are always on the look out for new mentors. Mentors must:

  • Be a woman over the age of 24
  • Have a current drivers licence and access to a car
  • Live in Melbourne’s Northern or Western suburbs
  • Can commit to 2-6 hours fortnightly for a minimum of 12 months.

There is no experience necessary! We provide on-going training and support.

If you want to make a positive difference in the life of a young person, apply now.
